Do you have a 20/20 vision for the coming EPA and CARB regulatory changes?

Semco Plastics is proud to introduce low-permeation Akulon® Fuel Lock Blow-Molded And Injection-Molded fuel tanks for:
Power Sports
Outdoor Power Equipment

When CARB started discussion of tightening emissions regulations in 2020, SEMCO Plastics began investigating products that would offer a better solution than those currently on the market. Our research showed that Akulon® Fuel Lock is the best way to meet these stricter standards. SEMCO Plastics has since partnered with DSM Engineering Plastics, the manufacturer of Akulon® Fuel Lock, to bring this innovative resin to the marketplace.

The Akulon® Fuel Lock is a family of cost-competitive materials that reduce evaporative emissions from small emissions fuel tanks by more than 99%. They are the simplest and most cost-effective way to meet the EPA and CARB evaporative emission regulations for small engine fuel tanks.

“At SEMCO Plastics, we’re constantly evaluating and anticipating the needs of the industry,” says Curt Voelkel, president and owner. “We know what an asset the Akulon® Fuel Lock tanks will be in meeting these upcoming regulatory changes, and we’re proud to be the first to offer them. SEMCO Plastics strives to be not only the best plastic molder in North America, but also competitive in our pricing structure.”

Tanks with 2 mm wall thickness molded from Akulon® Fuel Lock reduce weight while increasing fuel capacity
Supports sustainable practices by avoiding fluorination, a traditional barrier technology for high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and is fully recyclable
Compatible with current tooling
Uses standard blow molding and injection molding tools and machines
Eco Friendly
Additionally, the tanks are recyclable, reflecting our dedication to creating eco-friendly and progressive solutions that are simple to integrate
Resistant at sub-zero temperatures
High-impact resistance at cold temperature to -40˚F
Meets Regulations
Meet California Air Resource Board (CARB) and EPA regulations for 2020
Easy To Convert

Progressive Akulon® Fuel Lock tanks utilize existing tooling; the conversion from polyethylene to an Akulon® Fuel Lock tank doesn’t require special tooling.

Low Evaporative Emissions Rate

Akulon® Fuel Lock performs at an exceptionally low evaporative emission rate of 80% below the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and CARB regulation limit.

SEMCO Plastics strives to be the best plastic molder in North America while offering the best value to our customers. In most cases, Akulon® Fuel Lock will be cost neutral when compared to fluorinated HDPE.

SEMCO Plastics is the North American Leader of these advanced fuel tanks that meet California Air Resource Board (CARB) and EPA regulations for 2020.
